State Significant Development
In 2004 Geolyse commenced impact assessment investigations, leading to the preparation and submission of the Environmental Impact Statement for the Taralga wind farm in the southern tablelands of New South Wales. The wind farm was approved as a State Significant development by the Minister of Planning and consent was subsequently granted for the wind farm in 2007 by the Land and Environment Court following an appeal.
Throughout 2008 and up until the present Geolyse has maintained an active involvement in this significant development located in regional New South Wales. Geolyse has worked collaboratively with the developer, Taralga Wind Farm Pty Ltd, and various state government agencies to prepare consent modifications and environmental plans associated with the construction effort, including the Soil and Water Management Plan required for the project’s Construction Environmental Management Plan.
And so it is, a decade after first starting work on this project, that Geolyse is both proud and excited by commencement of construction of the $280 million Taralga Wind Farm and its 51 x 1.8-3 megawatt turbines.
Manager Environmental at Geolyse Andrew Brownlow notes that as a regionally based consultancy, the opportunity to be involved in this project has been especially enjoyable, “A project of this scale provides the chance to meaningfully engage and challenge many of our younger professional staff, across a spread of disciplines in the environmental and engineering fields, to work on a major renewable energy project. Renewable energy promises so much for regional communities, and the willingness for developers to work with regional service providers such as ourselves demonstrates this.”
Pedro Vozone, Renewable Energy Engineer at Taralga Wind Farm Pty Ltd believes accessing regional expertise has been important factor in enabling the construction effort at Taralga to commence. “Geolyse has provided a very professional service and we have enjoyed working with them. They have acted proactively throughout the process and understood the need to deliver outcomes that meet regulatory requirements, and community expectations, on time and in budget. Their contribution in assisting our navigation of the regulatory water has been priceless, most certainly cutting down on the time and cost to get the necessary approvals”
